# Automo CLI: Automo developers

> npx automo connects Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf or Claude Desktop to Automo, signs in, and calls tools from a terminal.

The `automo` command line tool connects AI clients to Automo and calls tools from a terminal or a script. It needs Node.js 18 or newer and has no other dependencies.

## Connect an AI client

```bash
npx automo connect claude-code
npx automo connect cursor
npx automo connect codex
npx automo connect windsurf
npx automo connect claude-desktop
```

This adds the Automo MCP server to that client's configuration. The first time the client uses it, the Automo sign-in and consent screen opens in your browser.

## Sign in and call tools

```bash
npx automo login            # opens the browser, stores a token in your config folder
npx automo whoami
npx automo tools design      # search the tool catalogue
npx automo call list_projects --args '{"limit":5}'
npx automo docs invoice      # search what Automo does
npx automo logout
```

`AUTOMO_TOKEN` in the environment (an access token or an `edh_` connector key) overrides the stored login, which is how to use the CLI in CI.

## Python

```python
pip install automo
from automo import Automo
client = Automo(token="edh_...")
print(client.call("whoami"))
```

Both clients call the same REST endpoints described in the [API reference](https://automo.ai/developers/api).
