When you add a Full Time, Part Time, Casual, Fixed term or Intern employee, Payroll is now switched on by default, matching the pay shown on the Compensation step. If you turn it off, the wizard warns that they won't appear in pay runs or receive super/STP, and the Review step lists that as a warning. Contractors stay paid by invoice.
