Bringing an InDesign file into Automo used to change the design in several ways at once. Photos were squeezed to fit their frames, so subjects came in smaller and flattened and areas the designer had cropped away reappeared. Artwork pasted into the layout arrived as a broken image, and logos placed from an Illustrator or PDF file came in shrunken. Headings could land in a plain fallback typeface instead of the font the designer chose, coming out thinner and narrower. Line spacing was widened from what the layout specified, which showed up most on large display text. Text sat higher in its frame than it should, and any letter reaching past the edge of its frame — the tail of a script font, the bottom of a large number, the end of a line — was cut off. Imported layouts now match the original on all of these, so a file you bring in looks the way it did in InDesign instead of needing every picture resized and every heading reset by hand.
