When your sign-in just needs a refresh, the editor restores it in the background and reopens your document as if nothing happened; if the sign-in truly expired, it tells you and returns you to the same document after you sign in. Work typed while signed out is preserved, and edits made from another device are kept in version history before your changes are saved.
